Glorious food in Nice

Restaurants worth visiting if you’re looking for great food, service and value for your money.

October 2022
You’ll never run out of restaurants and cafés in Nice, with new ones popping up all the time. Most of the restaurant action can be found in Nice’s old town or in and around the trendy rue Bonaparte. Both areas offer everything from inexpensive and casual dining to Michelin fine dining. Here are a few suggestions where you can expect professional service, value for the money and excellent food. Be sure to check the opening hours as most restaurants close certain days of the week.

Artichokes and much more

Olive & Artichaut (Olive & Artichoke) focuses on meals with high quality, local ingredients. And yes, you will probably be served a tangy bowl of olives and have an artichoke mousse dabbed on your plate. It’s not a big restaurant and it fills up quickly so book a table. If you don’t get in at dinner you may have better luck at its more spacious sister restaurant, Citrus, across the street.

Innovative dishes

Wondering where to go on a Monday when everything is closed? Saved by L’eau de vie! They offer surprising combinations that work exceptionally well, such as veal breast confit with a parsnip and vanilla puree, or calamari with quinoa and pomegranates. Combine it with a regional wine or a Blue Coast beer from the local brewery.

Veggie time

Nice has plenty of vegetarian and vegan cafes and restaurants, but many of them, including Badaboom, are only open during the day. Located off of rue Bonaparte, it offers a wide variety of healthy juices, smoothies and hot drinks, as well as salads, snacks or a daily special. Badaboom also serves artisanal beer and organic wine – it’s France after all.

Lively eats in the old city

There’s a jumble of tables and bric-a-brac at this crowded old town restaurant, where there’s always plenty of action. Comptoir du Marché has a chalkboard of daily specials that varies according to what’s fresh at the market. You may have to wait for a table, but it will be worth it.
