Now it’s easier than ever to fly more sustainably
SAS is introducing new biofuel tickets.
For decades, SAS has been in the vanguard when it comes to promoting sustainable flights, and this continues to be our top priority. We’re intently focused on lowering emissions, and we work hard to reduce our carbon footprint. Our goal is to lower our overall CO₂ emissions 25 percent by 2025 and make all domestic SAS flights fossil-free by the year 2030. SAS was recently voted the most sustainable airline in Sweden, a distinction demonstrating that our efforts are both visible and appreciated.
In spring 2023, a new type of ticket was introduced that includes biofuel, allowing you to do your part for the environment and reduce the CO₂ emissions of your flights.
Here’s how the tickets work
When you plan to travel with SAS domestically or within Scandinavia or Europe and buy a SAS Plus Pro or SAS Go Smart ticket, you have the option of purchasing it with approx. 50 percent biofuel included in the ticket price – Plus Pro Bio and Go Smart Bio.
Go Smart Bio is the perfect choice when you’ve got luggage and want to travel more sustainably while Plus Pro Bio is just the ticket when you want to pass more quickly through security and access any of our lounges and care about sustainable travel.
As a EuroBonus member, whenever you buy one of these tickets, you’re rewarded with more EuroBonus points. In addition to the Basic points you accumulate from your ticket, you’re rewarded with an additional 450 Basic points for travel within Scandinavia or 700 Basic points for flights to and from Europe.
During the launch period from April through August, we’re awarding extra points – 400 Basic points within Scandinavia or 700 Basic points for flights to and from Europe.
What is biofuel?
Biofuel is a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) that dramatically lowers environmentally harmful CO₂ emissions throughout its life cycle. It’s manufactured from various household, industrial, and agricultural waste products and remains carbon dioxide-neutral in all phases. The biofuel included in your ticket is used to replace an equivalent amount of fossil fuel in SAS’s operations over the next 12 months.
The cost of the biofuel is calculated on the basis of an average trip corresponding to an approx. 60-minute domestic flight within Sweden, Norway, or Scandinavia, a 35-minute domestic flight in Denmark, or a 90-minute flight to or from Europe.
As you can see, it’s all very straightforward. Welcome aboard on your journey to zero emissions!
