Spring Boost at Tulip Festival Amsterdam
Experience the blooming tulip fields in the Netherlands – a color explosion you’ll never forget.
Tulips have a long and exciting history in the Netherlands. Interestingly, the first ever known financial bubble – which happened during the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century – centered around tulips. The story goes that speculation around the bulbs was so wild, that a single bulb of a particularly desirable tulip was bought for 5 hectares (12.5 acres) of land.
Nowadays, tulips are no longer a status symbol. Instead, these beautiful flowers are associated with spring.
Amsterdam is always a great destination with its combination of city, picturesque town center, history and modern culture. But a visit to Tulip Festival Amsterdam, mainly in April and May at the height of the tulip flowering season, is just about the most Dutch and the most spring thing you can do.
Keukenhof – the Disneyland of tulips
The Keukenhof tulip gardens are just outside Amsterdam, a huge park where over seven million bulbs are planted by hand every fall, to flower spectacularly when spring arrives. There is often a single theme to all the tulip-related events in the 32 hectare (79 acre) park, and 2024 is the 75th anniversary!
Also, around Keuekenhof are the famous tulip fields, which can be visited by bike, buggy, helicopter and more.
If you want to spring it to the max, we recommend visiting the Bloemencorso Bollenstreek, the Keukenhof flower parade that kicks off on April 20, 2024.
